The ranking evaluates a total of 279,971 scientist profiles identified across a broad spectrum of bibliometric data sources, encompassing all scientific disciplines. Specifically, 9,796 scientists identified in the domain of Engineering and Technology were considered for inclusion in this edition.
To qualify for the ranking, a scientist must have a D-index of at least 30, and a clear majority of their top-tier publications must be within the scope of Engineering and Technology. Additionally, researchers’ recognized awards and professional achievements in the field were carefully taken into account.
The threshold for D-index selection increments by 10 depending on the estimated total number of scholars in each respective discipline, with a key objective of ensuring the inclusion of the top 1% of leading experts within the ranking. Moreover, the difference between a scientist's general H-index and their D-index must not exceed 30%, ensuring the researcher’s prominence is strongly aligned with the target discipline.
Verification and Validation Practices
We recognize that raw bibliometric data alone are not sufficient as absolute measures of scholarly output or impact. Consequently, all scientist profiles considered for the ranking underwent a rigorous manual verification process. Each profile was cross-checked against publications listed in a wide array of trustworthy sources to confirm accuracy and relevance.
While not directly influencing the D-index or final ranking position, the number of publications in prominent journals and conference proceedings serves as a valuable secondary indicator of a scientist’s contribution within their specialized research area.
The final ranking position is thus established based on the D-index computed from data gathered from OpenAlex and CrossRef — two of the most prominent and widely recognized bibliometric databases accessible to the research community.
